Gail Pemberton is passionate about enabling people to work and live to their fullest potential. In her extensive work with people from heads of industry to probationers, experience has taught her that to be truly effective people need to have an understanding of their own underlying psychological needs. Today’s leaders need this understanding to be more effective in interfacing with their staff and in so doing get the best out of their people. When individuals are fully aware of themselves and what motivates and drives them, (both conscious and unconscious), people can and do enjoy successful relationships in all spheres of their life. Furthermore the flow-on effect of greater personal understanding enables a sustained perceptiveness about others. Her many years working in the finance industry in both London and South Africa combined with her psychological background gives Gail a unique perspective on business.
Gail is on faculty at the Jansen Newman Institute, where she teaches and does supervision for students to post graduate level. She also worked for the Australian Graduate School of Management on their executive program. At SMG Gail works to further enhance the coaches’ understanding of interactions so they can bring this knowledge and ability to their clients. She also runs a successful private practice.
She is a member of PACFA (Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia, and CAPA (Counsellors and Psychotherapists, Australia). She has a Masters of Counselling (UWS) Graduate Diploma (JNI) and an undergraduate degree from Sorbonne and Lille universities (Paris).
She is also the author of the popular self-development book You Can Live with Anyone, well almost.
Gail is particularly interested when working with clients and coaches to bring to their attention the dynamics within organizations. A strategic appreciation of what is really happening can help facilitate deep structural changes for the benefit of all. Because of her training and teaching she draws from all the proven psychotherapeutic modalities to suit each individual’s style of learning.
In recent years, besides publishing her book Gail has designed and implemented many programs. At SMG she has designed and runs a program for executive women, to help realize their full potential. This has been very successful and new programs continue to be run. She also runs corporate workshops to enable executives to fully understand the concept of projection and how to maximize staff input. She is particularly interested in helping boards resolve interpersonal difficulties to facilitate effective management. While Gail continues to teach students of psychotherapy her passion is to help facilitate education and change in industry.
On the therapeutic side she has designed and run programs for Probation & Parole, Relationship Australia and the Jansen Newman Institute.
